# Hi everyone 👋 , I wanted to know if this pot is to big for this…

Hi everyone 👋 ,  
I wanted to know if this pot is to big for this Orchid ? It is a rescue from a friend , it grew new leaves a few months ago , now it's not growing new leaves , could you help ?

I'm not sure how large your specimen is, but usually they grow about 3-4 leaves at a time. Since they might be in the energy storing period after you cut the flowers spikes off you might just need to water as normal, for me I like to soak mine for about 30 mins to an hour. Obviously make sure its in a VERY loose substrate like straight orchid bark!

Forgot to mention if you don't already have one, I'd recommend getting a orchid fertilizer spray for the foliage! Happy growing!

Thanks , when I got it this past summer there where no flowers , not sure what color it will be

Whether the pot is too big for the orchid depends on how big the root ball of the orchid is. The goal is usually 1-2 inches bigger than the size of the root ball when repotting. Totally normal to not see new growth right now since we’re still in the winter dormancy season. If you want to see new growth even in the winter months, a grow light would help.
