I find them so interesting. However I have never had luck with them.

Distilled water or rainwater only, and do not repot into any soil mix with fertilizer. Buy premade carnivorous plant potting mix or research how to make your own blend. I’m not sure if fungus gnats are big enough to trigger a trap to close… If you want a carnivorous houseplant to manage fungus gnats get a nepenthes (pitcher plant) or Pinguicula (butterwort) plant. One other thing I think is challenging is the Venus Flytrap dormancy period. For Venus Flytraps to survive long-term, I have heard they must have a dormancy period every year of at least three months. During this period I guess they look dead as their leaves turn black and people assume they are dead when they are just having a needed rest. Strongly recommend doing research on how to handle dormancy.

Yes, as mentioned above, they do not like to take in any nutrients through their roots, so no fertilizer, no soil, and use distilled water. I have mine in spaghnum moss that I keep moist and they seem happy with that.
I have mine in an east facing window with bright indirect and it thrives there.
Let them catch flies on their own, they don’t need help. I would have to do more research on their dormancy, I know they have periods where they don’t eat, and that’s ok. Normally I just prune any black leaves and they grow new ones.

I live where they grow wild so I keep them outside all winter. This one was frozen stiff in January but is still loving life. It is currently in the dormant stage when the traps are smaller and lower to the ground. I use sphagnum moss at the bottom, peat moss and perlite in the middle and sphagnum moss on top. I only water with distilled or Zero water from my filter. Don’t worry about feeding them bugs they will catch what they need outside. They need a lot of sun outside.

I forgot the most important part is to keep it in water all the time cuz it will die if it dries out! Just keep a drip tray on the bottom filled with water

This is a Pinguicula and they are my fungus gnat eaters. I have 6 plants and they are very addictive! They are very easy to grow inside 😊

I think it’s really good if you mist them

I found mold on the surface and it burned a circle on a leaf so stopped the practice and gave them better air circulation. Humidity isn’t as important as air circulation is that’s the lesson I learned from it. 😉
