# Hi All, I am considering adding a long plant shelf above this door…

Hi All, I am considering adding a long plant shelf above this door and windows. But wondering if it’ll be enough light? My current plant shelving is about 20 feet away from this door and those plants are doing well. You can also see in this photo that there’s an air vent in the ceiling that can be redirected as to not blow on the shelf if I put one up. This photo is taken at 2:45pm so it shows the afternoon lighting situation. Thanks for any opinions!

You will need grow lights above the entry. It’s too dark.

Agreed. You could probably but very low light plants but you should probably still supplement with lights.

Pothos, some trailing philodendrons, zz plant

I mean grow light strips. My DIL uses them in cabinets. No brand to recommend. They won’t let me post link. Look on Amazon

If you go with the “low light” plants a good tip is to buy them at the size you want them to be. Plants like Zz and snake plants can survive in low light, but they won’t grow. If you want them to thrive \& grow, they need lots of light.

Good to know about snake plants. I can’t seem to get the lighting correct for my two snake plants. I’ve read high light and low light for them and have tried both but they’re still having a hard time thriving.

hmm…mine does beautifully in a west facing window. they really like bright light and infrequent watering

I’m going to move them today to an eastern facing window and see what happens. A couple months ago I split and repotted them from one plant into two so I know they’re still trying to get reestablished but definitely have lighting issues too. Thanks for the input!!
