# This is George. He’s a Hosta Fortunei and my current problem child,…

_Publicado por Adrian el 2024-05-09_

This is George. He’s a Hosta Fortunei and my current problem child, as the app is telling me he needs more humidity, but that full sun is not good for him, as well as that I should not mist him. If I can’t put him outside, I don’t know how to increase the humidity for him when it’s currently summer and all the nice free humidity is outside and my AC is pretty non-negotiable indoors. Any advice for increasing humidity for indoor plants without misting?

I would suggest buying a humidifier, look into warm mist and cool mist, see which one you’d need. But you can absolutely put your plant outside, just wean it to the light.

Give it a couple of hours of outdoor sun one day, then keep increasing it until it’s ready to stay outside. You’ll more than likely get some sun burnt leaves, but the rest of the plant will live.

Not sure where you live but in the UK, Hostas are very much outdoor plants. If you have a lot of sun, place somewhere outside not in direct sun and mist every two days.

I have one I’m my back yard that’s like 3 1/2 foot wide I live in Southern US

I'm in Minnesota and we have hostas galore outside. I would agree with Shelbop, and just keep it out of direct sun when outside!

I have my hostas outside in the ground in full sun and they’re thriving. Hosta leaves are much hardier so they’re less likely to burn. Keep them well watered!

I’m in Indiana and about everyone I know has at least one hosts outside. They like part shade I believe, but they’re hardy to zone 6b!

Another alternative would get a tray with pebbles and fill up half way and then put your plant on it. But the water cannot touch the soil.

Wow! Thank you all for all the answers! I live in zone 7a in the northeast of the US, so maybe that’s why the information changed on the app for me?? It’s good to know they’re hardier than I thought. I was really worried about burning poor George to a crisp 😅

There’s this wonderful invention called a humidifier

I put my high humidity plants in the bathroom so they get a nice burst of humidity when I shower. Just depends if you have enough light in your bathroom or not, mine is pretty low light
