# Hi! I just got gifted this plant! Is it a monstera? And if so can…

Hi! I just got gifted this plant! Is it a monstera? And if so can anyone tell me about what this plant likes? (Lighting,watering etc.)

Also the plant has just been repotted but the pot has no drainage hole Will this affect it?

Yep it’s a monstera! You definitely will want a different pot with drainage holes! You’ll end up with root rot pretty quickly without them. These plants like a really airy soil with good drainage. Lots of perlite at the minimum, but better if you can add some bark too. And bright indirect light. Looks like you’ve already got a support pole in there, so that’s great! I’d just switch that pot sooner than later.

Agreed! Humidity is also a plus for these babies too

The plant needs drain holes or it will slowly die from root rot. You can use a plastic nursery pot to hold the plant and nest the plastic pot inside the ceramic cache pot. About 1/3 of my plants are nested in non-draining ceramic or cement pots for the aesthetics and to protect furniture. I remove the pots to water the plants.
