# So I saved this peace lily a while back from the clearance section in…

_Pubblicato da Cece il 2025-04-25_

So I saved this peace lily a while back from the clearance section in lows or something, and she’s been living in water in an attempt to revive her. All the leaves were dead, but I kept the best ones. Can anyone tell me what’s going on with the old stems? I know they are rotting ish, part of it is dirt. But the fuzzy sprouts are new. Is this just new roots. It’s happening on a lot of the plant. Any tips for saving her are welcome! At this point I just feel bad enough to keep her

Those look like the previous soil roots rotting in the water, you should trim them as much as you can.
Anyone else is free to give input. I’ve never owned a peace lily so i’m not experienced with their care or root type

I agree. It will do better in soil.

Hi there, I have a peace lily in water rehab right now. The brown mushy stuff is rot. Use a clean pair of snips to trim off all the brown bits. Check if the rhizomey bit that the roots are growing from has any rot. If so, there’s probably no point continuing.

If not, here is what I have been doing and it’s SLOWLY (and I’m talking like more than 6 months already) recovering, growing new roots and leaves: after cutting off the rotten roots, I give the roots a soak for an hour in a mixture of 3 parts water to 1 part hydrogen peroxide (the 3% solution you can buy at the pharmacy) - so if making 2 cups of liquid in total, that’s 1.5 cups water and 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide.

Then I just put it in water and change the water every week.

After a while I kicked things up to try to improve root development: I added hydroponic fertiliser into the water with every water change. I use GT Clonex Clone Solution. I also added an air stone (the thing you use for fish tanks) to add oxygen to the water which I run 12 hours a day. My peace lily is also under a grow light for 12 hours.

Initially it lost all of its old roots. I helped the process over time by gently sloughing them off by hand. And then new roots have grown as well as tiny baby leaves. Along the way I have also done a few water + hydrogen peroxide soaks for an hour at a time. Generally after sloughing off dead old roots.

My lesson from this is that it takes ALOT of time to rehab an unwell peace lily. But it’s definitely working. I had 4 or 5 rhizome bits (separate plants) in there and only 1 rotted, a tiny one.

Best of luck with this! It’s definitely an exercise in patience :) 🌿🌿🌿

Alright. So I cut off what rot I could, it seems the rest is just dirt that got stuck that I couldn’t get out previously. I had to cut off some mushy roots too, but otherwise I think it’s good. Does it look like it could still grow from here?

Yep, I’d give rehab a try. However that doesn’t look like a peace lily. Have you got a photo of what the plant used to look like?

This is what she looked like prior to my failure as a plant parent .

Ok definitely not a peace lily, could be a canna lily

Got her from the clearance section for a few bucks, I’m pretty sure her tag said she was a peace lily but I could be mistaken.
