# Just here to show off my new shelf🤩 absolutely obsessed with the way…

Just here to show off my new shelf🤩 absolutely obsessed with the way it looks, it completes my living room🌱

On the other hand, my plants are now in the danger zone of being eaten by my dog🥲 I’m especially cautious now as a few of them are toxic if eaten… could anyone lend me some tips on how to prevent him from getting to them?

He seems to be ignorant of them rn, quick sniff yesterday and paid no interest since; but I’m paranoid for when we leave him home alone. I’m thinking of maybe getting a guard of some sort like the ones that people use to protect fireplaces etc to maybe put around it but idk where I could find one the right size…? (For reference, the shelf is just over a metre tall, I think 110cm)

I know every animal is different as one of my cats is a huge plant eater, but I’ve found my animals not touch the toxic plants. They might sniff or rub against them but they won’t eat them. However, my cats were allowed outside before they moved into my home (it was safe for them before and it no longer is) and my husband and I rescued our dog from the side of the road and she goes out all the time so I think they kind of know which plants are okay and which ones aren’t. My female cat will eat my calathea and she devoured our spider plant but she’s never attempted to touch my pothos (even though it trails) or monsteras or snake plant or any of the other toxic ones I have.

My dog doesn’t seem too bothered by them so far but he is bad for eating grass outside so I’m just worried we left him alone then it might be a different story🤣 hopefully he leaves them alone

My dog eats grass sometimes too whenever her stomach is upset, but I think it’s definitely better to be safe than sorry!

I’d also recommend anchoring it to the wall if you haven’t already. My cat almost knocked my shelf over jumping around on it, and I could see a dog standing up and accidentally pulling one over. Another thought is if you can place the plants you’re worried about to the higher shelves?

I was thinking this yesterday, how can I stick it to the wall? Also I tried to place the toxic ones higher but they won’t fit on the higher shelves, they’re just a taddd too tall🥲 so I had to settle with how they are now, that’s the best they will fit ahah

Those shelves usually come with something like this image. You can google “anti-tip” or “wall anchor kit”. Pretty simple to install it just screws a plate to the wall and then a strap around the top area of the shelf. There’s different kinds but the concept is the same.

I know it’s not a great answer, but I’ve never had a dog eat any of my plants. So maybe just keep an eye on ‘em to see if they’re attracted to any of them and then go from there.

It didn’t come with anything like that but it looks so useful, I’m gunna have a look online now and order myself something like this definitely. I’ve been keeping an eye on him and he seems to ignore them tbh, I’m just moving them to the kitchen for now whenever he’s left home alone and locking him out of the kitchen so he can’t get to them ahah

If you are that worried about your dog eating the toxic plants you can just use a crate when ur gone

#### Kayde antwortete am 2024-07-21

Absolutely not, I love my plants but my dog comes first always. He gets free roam of the hallway and living room whenever we’re out, I’d feel so sly locking him away just cos of plants🤣 plus he’s a 10 stone Rottweiler, we don’t have the room for a crate big enough to house him ahah!

The shelf looks great and your plants look super healthy and happy on it! Enjoy it and don’t worry about the dog unless something happens. I agree anchor the shelf to the wall hopefully preventing any issues.

Thank you! Yeah I’m going to order myself something to anchor it now.
