hi all! my string of pearls has gotten mealy bugs. i’ve been spraying with a peroxide mix and just got an indoor plant insecticide for it.

this fell off and i was wondering how to propagate it. i’ve tried to propagate a string of pearls before but failed. any help would be appreciated!

also some of my strings are turning brown, should i try to cut and prop? since the string will die off

Lay it back on the soil and mist

I’ve successfully propagated string of pearls in water. I strip the pearls off the stem, enough to submerge it in some water. They quickly start to root. Once the new roots start to branch, they are ready to plant. I usually add them back to the original pot, filling in holes.

Oh no! I’m so sorry 😞 I see that the soil is to dense, add mealy bugs to that, I would definitely change that soil entirely. I like to use a mix of 1/2 potting soil, 1/2 pumice rock. The brown stems are dead, so you can cut that off. Rinse your plant well to remove all soil and spray with insecticidal soap. Remove the bottom pearls to expose a nod and stick that in the new soil (don’t forget to wash the pot!). I would also lay the rest of the string over the soil and top it with pumice rock. I have found great success propagating that way. The rock will hold enough moisture to awaken the nodes, but if light and airy enough not to cause rot.
