# Hello! My plant collection is growing rapidly and I just got this…

_Opslået af Gianna den 2025-11-03_

Hello! My plant collection is growing rapidly and I just got this fiddle leaf fig for $10 at Lowe’s 🤭 this is my first one and it’s a dream house plant of mine. I have so many questions:
1\. Should I repot/change out the soil? It seems to be in a pretty chunky orchid bark type mixture but when I went to water it did not absorb right away.
2\. From research I know they don’t like to get moved but is near a window and with a grow light too much for this plant?
3\. Is there any hope for more leaves towards the bottom of the stem? The whole stem is green but I fear it’s going to be completely bare on the bottom!

Thank you plants kings and queens!!

unfortunately, unless you plan on chopping it, there will be no new growth for the bare stem. it's normal for chunky mixes to be slightly hydrophobic at first, but after a good initial soak, they tend to absorb just fine. for light, it depends on which way the window faces. north windows and a grow light is very likely too much. south and a grow light is just fine. east or west with a grow light depends on when the grow light is on and for how long it runs.
don't repot any plant immediately after purchasing. it needs time to adjust to your home before you give it more big changes.
you can cut the plant and propagate in water, and that stem will grow new branches. the stem itself will remain bare unless you purchase cloning paste or something of the sort to stimulate leaf growth.

1\. Let the plant get used to its new environment in its original soil. Changing to many things can stress it out.

2\. Looking at your setup the grow light may not be needed. That window looks plenty bright.

3\. I may be wrong, but I do believe that the bottom will stay bare. This is likely due to a lack of light at the store where you bought it.

Mine looked like your when I got it 2 years ago. This is her today. She is right where I put her then. I heard they don’t like to be moved around. Filtered sun, it’s south now, but filtered with a screen and only a couple bright hours till the sun is fully up. Water regularly, I do weekly or week and a half. I just check with super long coffee stirrers I got on Amazon. And I wipe her leaves when dusty.
