How does everyone keep their homes non-foggy from humidifiers?

My apartment is foggy I know because I’m using tap water. I’ve been using tap water that has sat out over 24 hours first. I was using distilled water but it is not do-able to buy 15+ gallons of distilled water each week and haul that up my 3rd floor apartment..,, 🙁

Does anyone have suggestions? Maybe a water filter for my tap?

I use filtered tap water in my humidifier, but I also keep my humidity loving plants in a cabinet. It's easier to keep the humidity high enough to make a difference for them in a cabinet and it keeps the moist air from causing damage to everything in my home.

I bought this to put in tap water to help filter out the bad stuff, you can get it at any pet store I’m sure

No aquarium water conditioner will remove minerals from tap water. Minerals are solids. Water conditioner is made to bind to certain chemicals and dechlorinate tap water to make it safe for fish, which can also help plants that don't like chlorine. But the minerals in your water will still be in your water; the only way to remove them is to run the water through filtration to remove minerals and other solids.

Also for anyone interested in water conditioner for fish or houseplant use, Prime by Seachem is by far the best deal out there!
I bought a half gallon a few years ago and I'm only about halfway through (I have a fish tank and a moss ball tank that collectively get around 50 gallons of conditioned water a month added to them)

If it’s foggy, that’s too humid for a house. You could set up mold.

I would have to turn my humidifier off and on all day long.. my humidifier didn’t used to make the room “foggy” until I switched from Distilled water to Tap water. I have some de mineralized things in them, but none of them seem to help
:( so my assumption was that my tap water must be really harsh..?

Oh, you don’t have one you can turn down.
The water thing: with tap water you are probably seeing the denser drops because of the mineral content. So you could actually have been putting too much humidity in the air and not known it. It’s best to get a meter, like this.

Do you have a fine white dust on everything? If so, that’s from the minerals in your tap water. The fog you are seeing is the minerals in the moisture droplets from the cool mist humidifier.

If your intent is to remove the fog from the air while maintaining your humidity level in your current setup, you'll need to remove the minerals from the your tap water or go back to using distilled. To keep using tap, you could get an RODI unit for one of your sinks. It hooks up to your faucet and heavily filters tap water through several chambers before leaving you with your fresh water and waste water. At first, we just had it set to drain into the sink, but eventually I was able to route the waste water into the kitchen drain to make the waste water process even easier.

Thank you everyone for all the comments. I’m still just as unsure of what the best thing is I should do 🤣 I’ll be taking all comments into consideration and figuring it out. Thank you all☺️

I bought a semi cheap distiller on amazon. I have 2 humidifiers and some carnivorous plants, this has saved me a ton of money!
