Hey yall, I’ve had my fiddle fig tree for about a year now and I’ve seen no new growth on it. Lost a few leafs at the bottom. I need help growing my plant. What do yall suggest?

You haven't seen any new leaves coming out the top? Did you check the roots when you brought it home? Do you fertilize it?

As for the lower leaves, those are gonna drop as the tree matures. It might occasionally put out lower leaves (ime with a ficus elastica, it tends to happen when a lower leaf is knocked off/manually removed instead of allowing it to drop naturally). The lower leaves will become even more rare as the trunks bark up, it's just how ficus grow 🤷🏼‍♀️

There's things you can do to keep it short and bushy, I'll let someone speak on it though since I've never pruned mine.

No new growth from the top, that’s what has been concerning me. I recently fertilized and haven’t seen much change

Here's the three requirements for plant growth. 1: Energy (Sun or Grow Lights) 2: Food (Fertilizer) 3: Water (Not too much, not too little) Get these three ratios correct and your plant wont just live, but thrive!

I have never owned a Fiddle Leaf, so I can't say much on requirements. But give it lots of light (4-6 hours of sunlight or 8-10 of grow Lights). Add a general indoor fertilizer (10-10-10) based on the bottle's instruction. Especially during the growth season, Tapper off in winter. Water only when the top 2 inches of soil is dry (use a moister meter or wooden dowel to check).

You also mentioned having it for over a year. Check the roots. It's possible it's root bound and there is no more nutrients in the soil.

I recently changed the soil, but not sure if I changed it to the right type

FLF can be tricky. Mine loves sun. It's in a southern window and had a grow light above. She's also very hungry, I feed her every other water. Let her dry out between watering and rotate a quarter turn each watering. They do naturally drop leaves on the bottom think tree trunk.

Maybe time for a repot with fresh soil? I used a chunky mix of indoor potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite. I added some worm castings as well.

It’s looking great though even with no new leaves!

Thanks, and do I need to make the soil mixture or can I buy it from somewhere?

I mix mine from potting soil, perlite, orchid bark, and some leca tossed in there. It seems to be working for me.

How far is it from a window. The lighting looks rather dim.

### Ruckuz68 commented on 2026-10-15

I would say 3-4 feet away from direct sunlight

There are some specific types of mixes you can buy, but I find it easier to just mix my own!
