# I bought this plant several months ago and ihave struggled. Its on…

_Publicado por Andi el 2024-08-16_

I bought this plant several months ago and ihave struggled. Its on the rink of dying if its not dead already. The label said ficus lyrata but then google search said its a calathea. I honestly don’t think it’s either but if possible would like to save.
Soil is fairly wet still, seem to not like direct light. Any suggestions of what it is and how to care for it welcome. Thank you!

A ficus lyrata is a fiddle leaf fig, which is definitely not right lol. Calathea Zebrina is my guess. Calatheas are DRAMA QUEENS. They love humidity, bright INDIRECT light, and I water it when about 50% dry.

definitely a calathea — and this one looks dehydrated so you’ve got a root problem if the soil is still wet. i second lindsey’s comment

I just re-poted it. Gave it distilled water according to the app.

Super easy to over water if you go based off the app. If you figure out when it is best to water a plant based on how dry the soil should get, take a wooden skewer or chop stick and make sure it’s clean before sticking it in soil. The wood will show you where the wood was absorbing moisture, if there is any in the soil. Should only take a few min and it’s a great way to get a good look at what you can’t see

I have one, they really don’t like too much sun. I’d say a medium light space even a little bit of shade.
