I just got some Zinnia seeds and this is the first time I’ve ever planted from seeds! Any tips?

Follow the package directions and don't plant them too deep. Use a light soil. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. A small heating pad might help them germinate more quickly. They don't have to be in light until they germinate and have a a little growth showing.

Well that being said it might be a little early for zinnias in Michigan. They germinate and grow fairly quickly and it will not be warm enough in Michigan to put them outside and inside it'll be hard to give them enough light so they will get leggy.

I’m in California and it’s getting to be 70s here so do you think that’s fine??

I saw some people saying a half of inch down is that too much or too little? Thank you for the advice though!

Ah, I think I had you confused with another post. Someone who said they were from Michigan. And by too deep I meant not deeper than what they recommend so yes a half inch is probably about right. Lucky you California and 70°!

Hi! I’ve grown zinnia for 3-4 years in a row and they are honestly so much fun. To plant them follow directions, but I find just doing whatever feels good works. About a week after you see the plant pop up is when you should stop spraying them with a spray bottle and switch to a watering can. Repot when root bound and keep light relatively the same throughout their seedling time. I would recommend having some sort of breeze to strengthen those buddies if you are planning on moving them outside!

Oh okay that makes sense I didn’t know you were supposed to do a spray bottle first but I haven’t really looked at the directions much yet I was planning on planting them next weekend but thank you so much!!

It just helps with allowing the seeds to stay put and not sink with the water
