_Publicado por Moriah el 2024-04-08_

Just wanted to share my new babies 😍 my boyfriend wanted the Bonsai tree and I was like 🥴🫣 okkkayyy lol the polka dot I’ve wanted for a while! It was in a self watering pot but I pulled the string because something told me it shouldn’t be in a self watering pot…thoughts? And the cute lil pink one said low light but then I realized it said “hard” once I got it home 🙃🥲 any tips and tricks welcome!!

the fittonia i personally bottom water every 3-4 days or when i notice the top inch or so of soil is dry. They like to keep their soil moist and that is what i’ve found best so far for mine. try your best not to let the leaves fall or droop, it takes a lot of energy out of the plant and if it happens too many times it can die. If you want to gauge how often you water that plant, you can let the soil dry out and let the leaves droop once or twice. try to track when the leaves droop and water the day before the leaves would do that.

I’ll try the bottom watering route for that one then! She’s in the planter in a tiny nursery pot so it’s easy to pull out and bottom water! I’ll be careful to keep track of the drooping :)

I have my Polka Dot in a self watering pot and it’s growing like crazy. I also put my frittonia in a self watering pot and she never droops. The SWP only work if you monitor the water and top water every once in awhile to flush the soil. Best of luck to you and your new babies!

Ok that’s good to know! It’s still in the SWP (love that acronym lol) but I pulled the string and dumped the water. It’s from Lowe’s and just always feel like they over water them there. But if yours is thriving perhaps I’ll give it a try eventually! Does yours require stakes? Mine is clipped to stakes for support.

Yes it has stakes. I read something interesting that said it was like a vining plant and needs something to hold onto. One of the podcasts I listen to interviewed a begonia expert and she was saying she never succeeded with these plants until she used the SWP’s. I have all my begonias in these and they’re thriving
