# Hey guys!!! I’m new to the planting community, and have quite a few…

Hey guys!!! I’m new to the planting community, and have quite a few succulents. I want to start collecting flowers, but I live in a very dry area. I have some daffodils, but I’m not sure if it’s safe enough for me to keep them because they need a humid environment. Anyone have any ideas or advice that could help me keep them living? Or any flowers that can survive in this climate?

Are you planning to keep them indoors or out? Some good plants for beginners are Pothos, philodendrons, peace lilies, and corn plants (dracaenas). If you want something more hands off, zz plants, snake plants and aloes are good choices. Welcome to the planting community!

There are many options out there for the outdoors. I think maybe aim for drought tolerant plants for a dryer climate or when you go to the garden centers it’s a pretty good indication of what grows best in your area provided proper care and location (including annuals). If you want to enjoy something more permanent, go for a semi-evergreen flowering shrub with seasonal interest. The best thing to do is to search/google “native” flowering plants in your area or city. This will give you the best flowering plants, good for pollinators specific to your area and hardy to your zone. A good tip for non-native plants is to aim for two zones lower than your growing zone. Hope this makes sense.
