# Looking for some help/info. A friend gave me this plant. She said she…

Looking for some help/info.  
A friend gave me this plant. She said she was killing it and told me to “save” it.  
I know the big one is a Shrimp plant and the others are Hens \& Chicks but I don’t know the real name for the Hens\&Chicks. I also need advice on how to care for the shrimp plant. Also, is the pot to big?

Unless you have very strong grow lights, hens and chicks belong outside in the ground. They tolerate cold and snow.

Separate them since they have different watering requirements. Put the shrimp plant in a well draining tropical mix. Put the succulents in succulent soil/cactus soil. Reduce the pot size for both to prevent root rot. 🪴🍀

I live in the Pacific Northwest and and I have about four or five pots of hens and chicks outside year-round. The type of hens and chicks I have under this app are called Fergo hens and chicks. I’m not quite sure what the difference between hens and chicks are but I would definitely do what Sunny said about separating them out. I would put the hens and chicks in a much smaller pot because they love to be crowded and their roots don’t go very deep until they are very mature so you won’t have to worry about rootboundness at all.

Idk where you live, but I’m over in Texas. During the winters, I have to bring my shrimp plant indoors. She’s very fickle about the light, so getting a grow lamp will be in your best interest. Nothing crazy, just something for output.

Agree with Sunny—looks like a smaller pot makes sense for the Shrimp. Never had Hens \& Chicks; can’t speak to those.
