Where do you plan on planting? Garden Bed, raised beds, pots?

I plan to use pots or homemade beds since I’m staying at an apartment

For starting herbs there’s greenhouse starters that work super well and are easy to use and doesn’t really matter if you’re going to plant them in pots, garden beds, or raised beds

Herbs can be easy indoors but I’ve heard it’s much easier to have a starter plant as opposed to starting herbs from seeds (I tried from seed once but I didn’t have the patience lol) When it comes to things like veggies or fruits, it takes a lot of energy and nutrients to grow something edible, composting + sunlight will be a huge help w this! There are a lot of great resources on how to start your own compost, but having that nutrient rich soil on hand early on will make a difference fs

You have to pick what you want to plant and where you want to plant them, as previously commented.

You need an area in your yard with good drainage and a minimum 6 hours of full sunlight for most edible plants in a garden bed or raised bed.

Potted plants need the same light requirement and large pots if you are growing dwarf trees, shrubs, and large fruit/vegetables. You will need trellises for vining plants.

Small herbs can grow in smaller pots both inside and outdoors.

Garden soil should be tested for Ph levels. The soil must be conditioned to get good drainage and balance the ph level to fit your plant’s need. I have to add sand, aggregates, perlite and such to break up my clay soil.
You can buy large bags of garden soil. But, it can get expensive in large garden beds.

I recommend going to a local nursery. I found a nursery owners have a lot of knowledge on the plants good to grow in your area and how to prepare to get a successful harvest. 🍀🪴
