# It’s hard to take a picture of my plants in their natural position…

_Pubblicato da 9thFloorGreenHouse il 2025-06-17_

It’s hard to take a picture of my plants in their natural position because it’s so backlit. The clear pictures look like glamour shots and a little silly.
Does anyone have any tips for taking pictures without making your plants POSE for them. Especially the issue of backlighting.

Definitely take some plant glamour shots! That would be cute.

I'm into glamor shots. But yeah, I struggle with this, especially when the plant isn't uniform or has ten different focal points.

If your plants are backlit use a “forced flash”.

You should be able to move the focus onto the darker areas. Then the camera/phone will brighten that portion and reduce the light in the brighter area.

Assuming you're using a phone camera, aim at something too-dark. Tap the screen to tell it to auto-adjust. Lock the light/focus (on samsung that's a little circle with a lock icon) then aim at your plant. The background will be over-exposed but the plant details will be visible. Angle strategically to minimize background interference and take your photo. You can also adjust to some extent using any photo editor (adjust exposure, light/shadow, contrast, and brightness)

I finally got this. I was in too close. If I step back and pick a dark spot it works great.
Thanks
