Hey Plant Fanatics!

I’m a first time plant mum to quite a few house plants… in which I’m struggling with!!

Firstly my monstera looks quite sad… any advice

Secondly my fiance left my Peace Lily outside and she now has sun stroke.. any advice to help her.

Also any advice to starting planting seeds. I really want to grow herbs from scratch and was wondering if I could use old soup cans to do this in???

Is it getting enough light? From the picture it looks quite dark

Hi - yes, there is a good 6-8 hrs of indirect sunlight in the room.

The picture is quite dark as it’s getting dusk…

Ok, in that case in my experience monsteras are incredibly prone to root rot, is the soil wet a few inches down? If it is I’d take it out of the pot and see how the roots look

Is there away of reversing root rot??

You will have to cut off all rotten roots (anything brown and squishy, I like to wash off the root system to get a better idea of what needs cut) , and then depending how much of the root system is left you can repot in a better draining soil (drainage holes are key as well) or put it in water until it grows more roots. You should try and make sure monsteras are completely dry before watering as well 😊

Re rooting takes awhile if you have to cut a lot of the roots off. My first monstera I had to cut off nearly the whole root system from overwatering and they can take weeks to months to re root but it’s worth it as most times the plant will come back!
