So I’ve been able to keep a pothos alive for 6 months now, which is a success for me - I would say it’s even thriving since I’ve seen several new leaves during this time. All plants around me tend to die for some reason, no matter how carefully I try to tend them. (I killed mint and I heard that’s nearly impossible!) I want to add a new plant to my home, What are other simple plants to care for, for beginners? Bonus if they are not toxic for cats.

Money trees and rattlesnake plants are good! Snake plants are too but they’re not cat safe

Any Hoya, cast iron plants, and spider plants are cat safe. Cast iron plants and spider plants are beginner friendly.

Spider plants are really easy, and the send off beautiful flowers when thriving. They are also cat safe. They can be kept outside during the summer in a pot and move them back in the winter, or you could leave them inside year round. They don’t need a ton of sunlight, but I have two in windows and they have thrived so well. They also are really easy to water since they aren’t really finicky with water. Here are a few pictures of the ones I have.

But I don’t know if they are safe for cats 😅

I like rubber trees, not specifically cat safe but I’ve never known a cat eat them? I would be careful with spider plants, cats love to eat them even though they are cat safe

cat owner here! my cats get into any plant they can, even if i hide it away on top of our kitchen cabinet and it’s deemed cat safe.
just a heads up- my cat got into a spider plant and had a severe allergic reaction, so i just assume all plants i have aren’t safe for them unless its cat grass or catnip

i’d go for a zz plant!! they tolerate neglect really well and low light conditions so it’s easy to keep it away from animals 👍🏼 plus they’re generally slower growing compared to pothos so i have less stress about having to move them when they grow quick and kitties get curious
