I got a monstera yesterday for my birthday. Do you guys have any tips on how to take care of it.

\* Give it bright, indirect light.  
\* If it’s too dark, it will grow slowly and produce fewer split (fenestrated) leaves.  
\* Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil feel dry.  
\* Water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom, then empty the saucer.  
\* Overwatering is the most common cause of problems, so don’t keep the soil constantly wet.

Use a chunky, well-draining mix:

\* Potting soil  
\* Orchid bark  
\* Perlite or pumice  
\* A little coco coir or peat moss

\* If your home is dry, a humidifier or grouping plants together can help.

\* Feed once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer.  
\* Cut back or stop fertilizing during fall and winter.

\* Add a moss pole or coco coir pole so it can climb. This encourages larger leaves with more dramatic splits.

\* Wipe the leaves every few weeks to remove dust.  
\* Rotate the pot every week or two so it grows evenly.  
\* Trim yellow or damaged leaves with clean scissors.
