# Hey any spider plant parents? I repotted my spider 3/4weeks ago from…

_Gepostet von Kayde am 2024-05-25_

Hey any spider plant parents? I repotted my spider 3/4weeks ago from a small glass jar to a 5 inch pot and she’s been doing well… today I bought a cute new plant pot that she would look perfect in but it’s only 3.5 inch wide, so I have 2 questions:

Will I be okay to downsize from 5” to 3.5” or will it damage her health?

If so, would it be okay to repot her now when only been 3/4wks or will that cause unnecessary stress?

I read that they like to be root bound so was concerned that the 5” is too big for her as of yet.. advice please:)

\*New pot does have drainage holes

The general rule of thumb is the pot should be 1-2 inches bigger than the root ball, but like you said, some plants prefer to be root bound. You can also trim the roots back if you don’t want the plant to keep upsizing (but try not to remove more than 1/3 of the root ball at a time). I think you would be fine to down size now, your plant looks super happy and healthy.

Yeah the root ball wasn’t too big before I repotted so the pot now may actually be too big, thank you! I’ll probably wait one more week and then repot her:)

If you are able to fit the small pot into the other and use it as a nursery till it get good and root bound then pot up to a bigger pot. To big of a pot can cause rot
