# Does anyone know why my spider plant keeps doing this? The leaves…

_Publié par Kayde le 2024-08-14_

Does anyone know why my spider plant keeps doing this? The leaves keep flopping and feel paper thin now rather than rubbery? Is it overwatering?
I water once a week cos the soil usually gets bone dry all the way through after just a couple days, so I feel the need to water once a week, but is that too much?
Or is it something else?

Please excuse the mess in the background🫣

I think it could be over watering mine is doing that currently.
Mine has grown bigger and is still “paper like” I don’t know why sorry

Or maybe too little or too much sunlight

It seems to feel more papery now after I watered it yesterday so maybe just need to stop watering it… it drys out so so fast though and I don’t want it dying from lack of water instead ahah

Let the soil dry out completely! The roots are thick fingers that keep water longer than the typical plant. You can carefully pull off the pot and look at the roots. They should be white and thick. No need to repot unless the roots block water flow. Add perlite to the potting mix with the next repot for better drainage.

I agree that the lack of sufficient lighting can make them droop and feel limp. Move to bright indirect light at least 8 hours a day in warmer weather.

Don’t forget to fertilize every month or fertilize every two weeks with 50% diluted liquid fertilizer. I also add SuperThrive plant vitamins in with the fertilizer. 🍀🪴

I pretty much do all of what you mentioned apart from it not having perlite. I let it dry out completely before watering but it dries out after just a couple days.. its been in the same place as my other spider plant which is doing fine (right next to a south facing window so always has bright light) and I fertilise every 2 week with diluted plant food.

The only thing that’s different to my other spider plant (I’ll add a pic - it’s thriving growing babies) is the lack of perlite. The other has perlite in, so I’ll repot the droopy one with perlite and see if that makes a difference:)

But both spiders have the same amount of light, same water and fertiliser schedule, so I’m hoping a repot will sort it out
