Ok I know I ask a lot of questions but I'm just really excited to learn more about my house plants and you all are so helpful I just can't help myself. My question this time is about humidifiers. How long do you leave yours on. I have read 1 to 2 hours, 3 to 5 hours and 8 to 12. I'm so confused not sure what to believe. Thanks once again for your help

My suggestion would be get a hygrometer. Govee has some that are decently priced, and the have an app that pairs to your phone and you can set alerts for high or low. Its really the only way to figure out how long, unless you have one like my Dreo, that turns on and off based on its hygrometer measurer.

Before that I was only running a few hrs a day. But the dreo runs probably more like 3-6 for like a 200sq ft living room

Ok I will check into that. Thanks

I have a hygrometer, so I leave my humidifier on however much it needs to be on to keep the humidity where I want it.

I run mine 24/7, but it auto adjusts its strength based on the humidity of the room.

i have one that can turn on and off automatically based on the humidity that the sensor detects, it keeps a range of 50-60%, but can be adjusted with the app (i have yet to download it, haha) its a levoit oasis mist (I THINK, lol) humidifier, and can mist warm and cool. if youre interested i would look at the different models they offer and find one that works for you!

Ask at your hearts content. You’re lucky you have a knowledgeable community you can turn to. I started my plant journey during the hype. Spending ridiculous amounts of money. You have no idea what I’ve spent on plants. I had to learn from trial and error, expensive lessons and wrong information on YouTube from ppl just like me starting out.
So you’re lucky that plant prices are better now and with knowledgeable ppl to turn to.
So ask away, the more you ask, the more you learn!!!

Thanks so much. I'm great with out side plant but indoor is so different and difficult to figure out. I have done the same thing by learning the wrong ways. I always thought the bigger the pot and the more water the happier the plant would be. BOY WAS I WRONG lol. So glad I found this app. Thanks

Yes that’s the biggest problem I see here. Small plants in huge pots, ceramic pots with no drainage, and damp wet soil.

I'm not very scientific. I fill my humidifier once a day and I have a big soup pot of water that I have on the stove most of the time but not at night. I think hygrometer is probably the better idea but my house is on the dry side and we needed it for the people living here.

I leave them on all day and refill them in the mornings

### exitJiraffe a commenté le 2025-02-08

In order for them to make a difference, they need to be on all day. Otherwise the humidity dissipates very quickly.

I’ve found the best way for keeping humidity consistently high, is with a grow light in an enclosure. The water from the soil is enough to increase humidity a lot. It’s great if you have space for it.

I gave up on humidifiers because it ended up causing leaf rot/fungal issues a couple times, and that’s a pain to deal with.

Thanks for your info. I appreciate the different suggestions from everyone. Unfortunately I don't have a area big enough to enclose. I wish I knew I was going to get into plants when I built my home I would of done a big sun room and had lots of fun with it.

Haha! I had the same thoughts recently about my house. If we ever move, I’m making sunlight a priority.
