Good Morning everyone!
I have a Mimosa that is into its 3rd Summer. It looks healthy and it has thick branches.

Last summer it grew to almost 6 ft tall. Well last winter the deer during Rutting Season the Bucks were scraping there antlers on the plant. Unfortunately it killed the upper part of the tree. I scraped some bark off a little to see if there was any green and healthy above the damage but there was nothing.

So I decided which may have been the wrong idea but I trimmed it to about 2 inches below the damage. Well I was expecting it to shoot up again this summer but instead it grew out. Still looking good just 3 ft tall and 3 ft around

Question should I cut or trim it back this winter or just leave it alone? I love the flowers that it puts out but I’m afraid it won’t produce if I keep cutting it back. Thank you in advance!
