# Hi, looking for some advice here! I was gifted a Ficus Audrey tree…

Hi, looking for some advice here! I was gifted a Ficus Audrey tree propagation and it’s not doing so hot. Friend was propagating it in water and it was doing excellent and sprouting new leaves.

When I got home, I immediately potted it in potting soil and watered (not excessively). The next day, the new leaves were all wilted. :( I know it needs an adjustment period, but it’s been 4 days and each day it wilts more. It’s placed below a window, but been cloudy every day.

I’d hate to kill it especially right off the bat! I’m not familiar with this plant. Anyone have advice before I kill my friend’s plant??

Night photo is from day 2, day photo is from day 4. Help please! 🙏

For propagations, you have to keep it moist enough for it to transition to soil but not so moist that it rots. If leaves aren’t yellowing, I would just say up your watering and maybe put it near a humidifier. I’ve had plants that I’ve tried to transition to soil and I’ve had to just rinse them extremely thoroughly and put them back into water. I’m not familiar with this plant so anyone more experienced can correct me. This is just based on general plant knowledge so it may be completely incorrect.

I’ve been tempted to stick it back in water! I probably should have let it adjust to my house first and potted later for less of a shock. I’ll try a little more water \& humidity for now, thanks!

Ficus are known to be very fussy plants. It could be that your plant may need an extended adjustment period after your repot. Don’t keep it too wet, or it might suffer root rot. If it doesn’t perk up soon, you can always put it back in water. Hopefully, it’ll be fine by the time your friend returns…
Good luck!

How big is the root ball compared to that planter? Since it’s new to soil they should be pretty close in size. If not, the soil stays too wet.
