Hello! I’m new to this so I apologize in advance. I have a golden pothos, baby’s tears, a jade plant, and maybe ambitiously a network calathea. I broke up the root ball on them all and repotted them in a chunky soil mix i made of like 50% potting soil, 25% perlite, 25% coco choir (roughly). The main thing i’m concerned about is watering them all correctly. Should I bottom water them all and just spritz the top layer? Should I run all but the calathea under the tap? I don’t know why this simple step is so confusing there’s just so much conflicting information. Thanks so much!

Buy a Brita filter just for them to avoid chlorine which many are sensitive to

It’s confusing because it’s mostly preference! I top water all of my plants and completely saturate them once the top few inches of soil are dry. Personally, this is what is most convenient for me and I find it works just fine.

I have not tried bottom watering but I’ve looked into it pretty extensively! It’s a great option if it’s what you prefer! The only advice I would give is to make sure you are flushing the soil every now and then to prevent the roots from burning. This means top watering every few times you bottom water.

I’ve heard many contradicting things about misting, but I feel that that means you can’t go wrong either way, it may just depend on the environment in your house. Maybe try it for a bit and see how your plants like it! Or, if your plants are already happy, don’t change what you’re doing.

It’s all a bit of trial and error to find out what’s right for you! But, it sounds like you’ve already set yourself up for success with well draining soil, so try not to stress too hard

Each one of your plants has unique watering needs. Try not to overthink it too much. I mostly top water, avoiding the leaves for the most part. The only time I bottom water is if a plant is susceptible to leaf rot. For example, African violets. Tap water is fine for everyone except the calathea. It needs mineral void water like distilled, RO, Brita type filtered water. I have found that misting has minimal benefits. Average homes are too dry and the water evaporates before the plants can gain any benefit from it. For my high humidity tropicals, I winter them over in a grow tent. Twice a year I drag everyone out to the deck and give them a good rinse.

I don’t know about all of them but the Jade plant is a succulent should be watered thoroughly but only about once a month depending on her pot size and she also needs lots of direct sunlight, at least four hours a day!! I also would avoid getting any water on her foliage if you can. Pothos like a pot with room to grow but not so big that there is so much soil that it stays saturated cuz they will get root rot and be unhappy, I let mine almost completely dry out before watering again but mist them every couple days, just a little mist so you don’t get fungus gnats!! I just put mine in the bathroom when I shower and let them get a good steam!! I don’t hold any of my plants under the faucet, I seem to over water them when I have done that so I use a garden watering can or a bottle of water and pour until the water runs out of the bottom. And the other plant mentioned I have no idea, I haven’t dealt with those before. Good luck with them, they will bring you tons of joy so don’t stress it too much and have fun 🤩!!
