# Hey, so my monsteras need repotting as they’re starting to lean and…

Hey, so my monsteras need repotting as they’re starting to lean and almost topple over so I need a bigger pot (which I do have) to fit the moss poles that I bought. My question is, am I able to use soil that I’ve had since last summer? Or should I buy fresh soil? As I still have a masssssive bag of it sat in one of my storage cupboards, I’m just unsure if that’s useable still after about 9/10 months? Would it have bugs or would it be fine to use? It has already been opened and a bit used last July.

Use the new soil… fresh nutrients and left any pests that might have come along.
Love my monsteras, the original plant is 30 years old

Soil refresh should be good for it, just add as you need for the new pot. I do recommend making an Aroid mix if it's not already in some. Fertilizer as needed is enough to replenish nutrients in the soil but it is good to refresh the whole mix yearly. As my other comment said I do like moss poles for Monstera but to each their own :P they do great with just solid supports as well.

So can I just use the old soil I have from last year or should I buy new to refresh it? I usually use a compost/perlite mix that works fine, what’s an aroid mix? I also still have liquid fert from last year, is that okay to use?

Your meaning a bag of soil unused from last year right?

The bags been opened and a tiny bit was used last summer, but it’s still basically a full bag

That’s what I thought. I would say still good , nutrition in dirt hasn’t been used yet. I don’t think it expires until used. Hope that helps.
