Curious what ya'll water your plants with. I have some that would perfer distilled water. I've read that letting it sit for 24 hours removes the chlorine and some people use the conditioner for aquariums. With it being winter here in illinois rain water isn't really a choice. What do you all use

I used distilled, and switch off with that and rice water

How does rice water work for you? Is that for any specific plants or would you use it for any plant? That sounds interesting, I might give it a try!

I’ve been just boiling rice with water, pouring water into pitcher and discard rice. I use whole grain and multi and switch off! Works well on all of my plants ( I have 38 plants currently mostly advanced tropical, several houseplants too)

I got an under-sink reverse osmosis filter with its own little faucet installed in my kitchen. I bought it online and it's possible to install it on one's own, but I hired a handyman because our plumbing is old and I didn't want to take any risks. It also saves on buying (and the plastic associated with) bottled distilled water. I think the best choice depends heavily on what your tap water is like and what plants you have. I live in an area that has very hard water, and foolishly got into tropicals that don't like tap to begin with, so here I am with my silly overdone filter!

I use tap water but add a water conditioner

For most plants, chlorine is not the problem. It’s usually certain minerals, especially lime. Besides, letting tap water sit overnight does nothing for most tap water because most municipalities use chloramine now which does not dissipate. I’ve read that many have success with the inexpensive faucet filters. Personally I use RO water for all my plants. 180 currently😵‍💫. And no we did not get it for the plants. We’ve had RO systems for years.

I use tap water most of the time, but distilled for especially sensitive species and propagations that are prone to mold

I have a rain barrel \& use it for all 70 of my plants.

#### Phil respondió el 2025-12-20

This is probably the best system.

I agree with Phil-- getting a rain barrel is on my list for spring. That said, the RO is pretty great to have and I much prefer the taste 😅

My plants get straight tap water, and they better like it or they can leave! Not had an issue with it yet

Use tap water run through a Britta filter, then I steep TeaDrops fertilizer for my plants. I make a 2.5gal batch that lasts about 2 weeks. Seems to keep my plants happy, but I’ve only had plants about 2 years so definitely not an expert 🤷🏻‍♀️
