# Hello! So I’m a relatively new plant mum and this spring my favourite…

_Publicado por Dove el 2026-01-10_

Hello! So I’m a relatively new plant mum and this spring my favourite plant needs reporting. She lived happily for ~1.5 years and grew nicely in the store's soil mix that she came in, but now has a whole root ring growing out of the nursery pot and definitely needs a new, bigger home.
I've done my research, and from what I gathered, the best combo is 2 parts potting mix (specifically Miracle-Gro potting mix), 1 part perlite, and 1 part orchid bark. Loads of people online seem to be using orchid MIX (Miracle-Gro orchid mix especially) rather than Orchid BARK. Is there a difference and is one better than the other?
Also, I know Ficus Elastica can have some trouble adapting after re-potting, so does anybody have any tips and tricks?
Many thanks!! ❤️

I am not a miracle grow fan myself, but I use one part soil, one part perlite one part bark. Orchid mix is basically bark.

Thank you! I have Miracle-Gro potting mix that I previously used on its own for my pothos and she seems to not mind it, thus just wanted to use "what I have at home". Any reason you're not a fan and have any better recommendations?

I use fox farm potting soil. I've read some bad reviews for miracle grow but I haven't had a lot of experience with it on my indoor plants so if you have it, I would use it. 😁
