# This is my first aglaonema plant so I’m not really familiar with…

_Publicado por DanishGramma el 2024-08-28_

This is my first aglaonema plant so I’m not really familiar with them, but it’s been growing kind of weird lately and I want to know if it’s normal or if I need to prune the side shoots off? I wasn’t expecting it to send up all the little spikes either! Lol

I just thought maybe you wanted to see the top 🤪

It’s how they spread and multiply. They’re babies, you can leave them or separate them out and propagate.

It’s going to be a full pot by the time I repot it in a couple years! 😄

Has it been repotted since coming from the store? Aglaonema are notorious for coming with hard plastic cages around their roots that eventually kill them.

oof this IS a good call — those root cages!! ugh whyyyy

#### Sarah respondió el 2024-08-28

Hopefully it was already repotted and that’s why it’s so happy!

We went through that this spring and I remember cutting them off and they are growing fast this summer and I have a few plants that need pruning every time you water them so I was just checking 😄

OMG! Yes! Mine had several root cages and still has not totally recovered from the repot 😞

Thank you! 🙏 I have prayer plants everywhere so it’s nice to have a plant that thrives on neglect 😂

It’s so happy and healthy!!! Way to go— mine is a struggle to care for, ever since my cat ate 60% of it in one sitting about a year ago 🤦🏼‍♀️

Did your cat get sick 🤢?
