# My monstera 😭 My beautiful thriving monstera has one new stem that…

My monstera 😭

My beautiful thriving monstera has one new stem that seems rotted . I took a photo of surrounding area as well. When I poke around in the soil the roots seem ok but I didn’t want to disturb it too much (probably already made it upset).

I pulled the rotted stem out and everything around seems ok to me?

The plant came from a beautiful small plant shop and I’ve had it for multiple weeks. I watered the first time maybe a week or so ago (not sure) but all new growth has been fine. When I check the soil with a moisture meter, it’s on the dryer side of moist.

Is she doomed? 😢

Yeah it’s rotted, the roots may look okay but you can tell they are squishy and rotted I don’t think it has an active growth point either so I feel like that stem is probably gonna die :\\

When you say stem do you mean that main stem from just that part of the plant (meaning there at 3/4 main stems)?
Do you mean it doesn’t have active growth on that stem specifically?
The rotted root was its own “mini section”. If seems (from guessing) to have a node but that was coming right out of the soil. How could I tell which main stem it is from?
Would I just have to repot the whole thing.

I drained it so well 😭 so I thought. I just watered it the once

My terminology is not the best lol

Thank you 🙏

From what it looks like it’s several plants in one pot, the stem I’m talking about is the one you pulled out that’s roots are rotten, and an active growth point is an area on the plant that has a ring around it to where more leaves can grow from (see reference).

The rest of the plants seem fine and healthy, monstera are pretty drought resistant so if you ever think the soil is still wet leave it for another day or two :)

Thank you for showing the pic! That’s actually super helpful 🙏
Wishing for the best 😅

Of course it looks like it’s in a good substrate that has perlite so I think it’ll be fine🫶
