# I recently bought Lillian here at a plant sale in a park, but I know…

_Posted by Adrian on 2024-05-11_

I recently bought Lillian here at a plant sale in a park, but I know absolutely nothing about Hostas. I live in a townhouse development with very little space on my front steps, and my back deck is quite small and doesn’t get full sun for very long, so I’ve figured I should try to keep Lily inside. If anyone knows how to keep them healthy indoors, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

(Also, she was purchased in what I thought was a large plastic pot with drainage, but there’s strange holes on the sides and not the bottom that don’t seem to drain water at all after I watered it, so any recommendations on what type of pot (plastic, Terra cotta, hanging, etc.) that this type of Hosta seems to do well in would be a tremendous help.)

Hostas are awesome! So pretty and almost cannot kill I swear! Plant it outside anyplace in your yard! I have them all over in full sun, part sun and shade. They can take shade well. They are very easily moved or repotted. We had a massive one we needed to use the tractor to move when redoing our yard, it was so heavy it tipped out of the bucket because it was overhanging being so big and I couldn’t hold it. It fell in the driveway right upside down crushing many leaves and breaking them off. I pruned those ones back, planted it and it was like nothing happened to it soon after!

Oh wow! Good to know! I currently have another one, George, that I was planning on planting in the garden once he gets big enough, but he started drooping and the leaves started turning yellow very suddenly after he looked perfectly fine up until two days ago. Figured I’m doing something wrong with him and I should figure out what it is before it happens to Lily

Aww poor George! Well I hope you can figure him out!
