# Hello! I bought this monstera from Walmart (costa farms) about a…

Hello! I bought this monstera from Walmart (costa farms) about a month ago and while she looked happy, she starting showing some signs of root rot so I checked her and it was bad. I had to trim off most of her roots besides the ones that didn’t just fall off. My question now is this enough roots to repot her in my homemade chunky soil mix or should I put her in water? I don’t want her die so I’m nervous. I’ve never had to deal with trimming that much root off. I soaked her in hydrogen peroxide after trimming is there anything else I should do? She’s getting a new pot and everything too.

That should be okay, I’ve planted mine with less but then I watered it a little bit less to make sure I looked after the roots properly. It didn’t grow as fast but the roots were fine.

Looks like it can go in soil to me

i’d wait a couple of weeks after she’s been in water.

Nice save! I personally like to wait until the main roots have started to branch off into secondary roots. But these kind of monstera are pretty tough, all things considered

i would just put her in a chunky mix in a small pot, like 4” or so, once the wounds are calloused / healed over. monstera are hardy and propagate well directly into soil when they have aerial roots. i’ve honestly had more luck with soil propagating, and to some extent semi-hydro (perlite), than rooting these in water since they are so prone to fungal root rot. you would need an airstone or to change / aerate the water every day to prevent rot while it sits in water.

I would put it in chunky soil. Avoid covering the stem to prevent them from rotting. Just the roots.
