# My little Stella is very sick! She obviously has a terrible case of…

_Pubblicato da Lynda il 2026-03-28_

My little Stella is very sick! She obviously has a terrible case of black spot, which I’m treating. However, when I took her out to spray in the sunshine today, my eye caught some webbing. In taking a few pics, I noticed some teeny spider like critters on her leaves.
HELP! What are these, and how transmissible are they to my other plants that are on the same table?

PS. Compare her original pic to the one I just took. The color change is really sad…😫!

Can be easily fixed I think. 1. Spray bottle 2. Rubbing alcohol 3. Pure pressed neem very small amount 4. A drop of dish soap, the dawn lol. 5 water mix it up give it a generous spray . Repeat with just water over the next couple days if you want. Repeat medication once weekly if you need

TXS for this formula! Do you think this mix will treat both the bug problem and the fungus?

Run a fan for a while. Check humidity

Do you know what these bugs are called? And I’m worried about my other little plants that sit on the same table. How transmissible is whatever this is? TIA!

From my experience they don't take over the whole place but they will get after it if it's dry and warm enough and no breeze. The neem should help with the fungus

Honestly I have a plant that is prone to them so I have to remain vigilant 🤣 she still thrives

When I'm feeling patient I will use a q tip to remove every last spec 1 by 1

Keep any full size spiders if you see them around; they eat spider mites and can help you fight the infestation

Friggin spider mites! They are very transmissible to plants that are vulnerable to them. For instance, my big thick broad leaf plants never have an issue (fiddle leaf, monstera) but the sick croton I had definitely infected my dracaena.

When I spot these, I take it to the sink/bathroom to shower all the foliage and rinse off as much as I can. When the foliage is dry, I wipe everything down with alcohol on a cotton pad/qtip. For my dracaena, that was near impossible with so many leaves, it’s also hard to do if the leaves are very delicate. In that case, I at least try to get into the nooks with a qtip to remove and remaining webbing. Then I mist the plant with water 1-2 times a day until all is clear.

If it’s a bad case, I’ll also use Captain Jacks super insecticidal soap spray. Because I despise the smell of neem oil 🤢

I recommend insecticidal soap and systematic insecticide granules from Bonide.

I highly recommend insecticidal soap over neem oil because insecticidal soap kills bugs on contact while neem oil coats the plant and has to be eaten to kill pests. Also, neem oil concentrates sunlight which can burn plant tissue beyond recovery. I learned that lesson the hard way on infested succulents. If you use neem oil, avoid bright light at all costs for at least a day.
