Beginner here! 🪴
I bought these 2 lovely babies yesterday from home depot, and am looking for any tips/tricks/info!

I havent had previous experience with plants \& would love to learn.

What does the process look like when transferring pots? Should i have bought extra pots to re-pot them? I also didnt buy soil/plant food yet because i wasnt sure if i do re-pot them RIGHT after i purchase.

I am doing my own research as well, its been a little tricky because a lot of people have different opinions than others.

I wanna be a proud plant mama! Help appreciated 🫶🏼

Not sure about the flowering plant, but with the snake plant definitely repot asap, they are desert plants and love very chunky soil. Plus usually Home Depot, Lowe’s, and any big box store will overwater their plants and put them all in the same generic water retentive soil mix. Definitely a no no for most plants. For soil I’d go with a non miracle grow type of cactus succulent mix, along with pumice or perlite, and orchid bark.

I don’t know much about the false heather, but the snake plant is a great first plant - once you repot basically just forget about it and it will thrive 😂

Any brand suggestions on succulent soil for repotting?

No, I’m not super picky about my soil so I don’t have any great suggestions for you, but a lot of people make their own chunky soil mixes and combine things like perlite, orchid bark, leca, etc. - honestly you can’t go wrong, snake plants will survive anything 😂

Welcome to the plant life! I too am only familiar with the snake plant of your options. I added perlite to a mixed soil blend for mine and it seems to be doing fine. I didn’t buy a special chunky mix 🤷🏽‍♀️.

The flowering plant has several names. It’s sold as Mexican Heather in my area. I’ve never grown them in pots.

They are very sturdy. They remind me of dandelion weed because they are low maintenance. They thrive in my zone 9a area in high temperatures. They need full direct sunlight for 6 hours to thrive.

Mine got water runoff from my patio. So, their soil was never completely dry. I added compost to the soil each spring. I planted them near my fence where they got lots of pine needles to provide the acidic soil they need. They were the only flowers that lived years in that damp, acidic and high heat location. I never trimmed mine. I wanted them to spread and block weeds. But, they grow fuller with a trim in spring. 🍀🪴

They are also called Hawaiian Heather even though they originate from Mexico and South America. They are underrated. Scottish Heather is more popular, but, harder to find locally.
