To me, it looks like some mechanical damage and maybe a humidity issue? Due to the dryness, I’d recommend a humidifier.

About watering - like most tropical plants they like their soil to be evenly moist, so dip your finger into the soil once in a while to check if it’s dry.

I would also like to offer my condolences to you and your family, as Ive recently turned 19 years old this hit me pretty hard. 🫶

Do you think she needs to be repotted?

Heya sorry for the late reply but in the future ( a week or so) when the soil dries up, take it out of the pot and see if the roots are hugging the sides of the pot, then get a nice aroid mix and a pot 2-3 inches wider/deeper than the pot it’s in :)

Make sure to have good ventilation to reduce the risk of mould

I’m so sorry to hear about your son. As to your plant, I would definitely check to make sure the roots aren’t coming out of the bottom of the pot and aren’t root bound, that can cause the slow growth of new leaves!

I’ve found my one has responded very well to pruning. Just one or two leaves can make a difference (I pruned 2 off mine and it was about the size of yours).

They also propagate really well - I’ve got a baby version coming through from the mother plant now. So if you prune a leaf or two off, maybe try propagating, for a few extra beautiful reminders of your son, and as back up given your plant is so very precious.

I put mine in water until it grew a few roots, then potted up. It took a while for the new shoot to come through but the leaf is growing noticeably bigger every day or two.

I got all my info on pruning and propagating on YouTube, so perhaps watch a video or two there before getting stuck in to maximise success.

I’m so sorry for your loss and wish you all the best x x

Ty but i am a new plant mom and i don’t know how to cut and root this one. I wouldn’t know where to cut at all.

Of course, I understand it must seem daunting too. This was my first time propagating too.

If you would like to propagate, YouTube really is your friend as videos on there can show you clearly where to cut and what to cut. For example, the more mature the leaf (ie. dark green), the better chance of success with propagating.

You don’t need anything fancy, just a pair of sharp scissors or pruners, a glass or jar of water and eventually, a pot and houseplant soil.

Would you like me to find a few good YouTube videos for you?

I thought this was a good video to show you how to prune, plus it’s quick and to the point.

It goes onto propagation too, if you’d like to try that. But in any case, pruning will definitely kick start some growth and you could perhaps replace any tatty leaves.

It seems I’m not allowed to share links on here, but it’s called ‘how to prune and propagate angel wing begonias’ by Julie Nicole on YouTube.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do :)
