# Hi! Some of my plant babies are needing a nice repotting, but I’m not…

Hi! Some of my plant babies are needing a nice repotting, but I’m not quite sure what soil mix to pot them in. The plants in question are: spider plant, string of bananas, monstera adansonii, and pink ficus. A lot of these plants’ soils have become hydrophobic and sponge-like, and I want my babies to thrive.

These plants all seem to like looser, well draining soil, but I want to create my own mix to best fit each of their needs instead of buying a typical “well draining soil” and putting them all in it.

Does anyone have any diy mix ratios that they find work best for these plants? I have perlite, sphagnum moss, peat moss, and some pebbles currently, and am able to get more materials pretty easily.

It’s not really a mix ratio. I use a whole 8qt bag of each : tropical or succulent mix, orchid bark and perlite. I use it for all of my plants

Spider plants can be repotted into just about any soil (personally I’ve potted mine into regular potting mix they’re doing well), I have a monstera siltepecana that I’ve potted into tropical potting mix and it’s very happy with it

String of bananas should be in a succulent soil with half being perlite. You could add pebbles to the mix but your pot will be heavy. The adansonii needs a very chunky soil (aroid soil mix)

I follow an experienced plant mama and she swears by this mix. I just purchased them so I haven’t tried it yet but her 200+ plants are amazing!💚🪴
