I’ve pruned my dragon tree (Dracaena) for the first time (😬). I plan to try to root the top cut \& if all goes well eventually plant in with the main plant at her next repot.
I hope this works, she’s my favorite work plant \& I really want her to grow some branches!

I've been thinking of doing this with mine too. 🤞🏻

I didn't even know you could do this

It seems weird doesn’t it? It took me a while to get up the nerve to try it 😅

Did the roots take for your new one? Or did it not make it

Sadly I managed to rot that one out. I think I used too much soil or water or both.
But!
The main plant has 3 new branches that are coming in 😃

A colleague who is leaving gifted me hers because I once admired it. It really is beautiful but it’s a single stem - tall and spindly. It won’t even stand up straight. I want to try this but I’m afraid and it’s so beautiful. Debating between just adding something for support or doing the chop. Yours turned out great!

It took me a full year to get up the nerves! I completely understand the hesitation!
What really forced my hand was the height of the window. She was running out of space!
I do think they are easy to propitiate. I think I would have had better luck if I used either straight water or something super chunky. So, if you decide to do it you could use the top part as a cutting.

The rule with most plants is: snip the top and it will force it to grow wide, snip the width and it will force it to grow taller. Makes sense it made branches at the snip site! How exciting for you!! 🤩
