Has anyone tried growing their alocasia in water? I’ve been reading and watching a bunch of videos using pon and leca, but im curious how well it would grow just in water and what that growing process is like. I might want to try it with one of mine this week.

In only water? What kind of water do you use? I typically use distilled. Do you use any fertilizer, if so what kind and how often do you change it? Did you cut away all the soil roots when you swapped over? I’m super intrigued.

How long have you had it in water?

the reason why i moved it to water is cause my mom accidentally burnt the roots off with pest spray so for the most party there wasn’t a lot of roots but i left the ones that were, also i just use tap water and i’ve probably got rid of the water twice since december but typically i just refill it and it’s doing great, it fully went from having no leaves to having one and it’s about to pop out another

I’ve grown a few in water and they were fine, only thing I didn’t like was how thin and fragile the root system was. When I transferred them to soil some of the roots broke. I like to add some kind of substrate to the propagation.

I just transferred my Stingray to water-only yesterday! I can’t attest yet to how well it will do, but here is a picture of how pretty it looks. 😍

Gorgeous! I saw a stingray today while looking for leca. I wanted it so bad but I’ll make sure these survive first before I kill more plants lol.

Will be switching em over to hydro today today, wish me luck!

I haven’t tried with alocasia, but colocasia grew well when I had a mini pond. If you feel like splurging, an air pump or tiny fountain helps with oxygenating the water for the roots
