# Hi!! I just bought this plant yesterday it’s a Ficus elastica aka…

Hi!! I just bought this plant yesterday it’s a Ficus elastica aka rubber plant. I was looking for a spot to put him in and the app recommended outside. Is this a good idea? I live in an upstairs apartment, it would be on a west facing balcony that gets direct sun from 3-5pm. Also any care tips would be greatly appreciated 😊🪴

This looks like a ficus shivereana which likes a bit more light than a standard ficus, how bright is the balcony the rest of the day? I also wouldn’t put it outside until there is no more chance of a cold night

If it’s anything like my burgundy, they love the light! I purchased her last Earth Day and she was barely peeking over the pot when I had gotten her. She’s in a south facing sunroom, on the east side of the room. They go dormant during the colder months and she’s recently started pushing out new leaves again. From my experience, they’re pretty hardy plants. The sunroom isn’t heated so it can get a bit cold during the winter. It’s one of my plants the cooler weather hasn’t affected.
