I would like some advice/suggestions. I love my snake plant. I've had it for over 3 years. However, within the last year 3-4 of its stalks have grown so tall, well over 2 feet, but are very, thin. I need to prop to a stake or they'll flop over. The ones at the base are thicker, which is ultimately the look I want but with the height. 😜 how do I balance it out? They're so slow at propagating, that chopping hurts my heart.

Tall and skinny is the result of not enough light. It’s the snake plants version of etoliation. No fixing of current growth. Increase the light and new growth will be normal.

What Phil said! I found one like yours on the side of the road in a free pile 6 years ago and put it in a bright window. Little by little I cut floppy growth off as new sturdy growth came in. Slow but satisfying! Also, I downsized to a smaller pot to help the roots out and give the whole thing a little more backbone. Have fun, your plants look happy and ready to grow!

I have a snake plant that is a second generation from a thirty year old plant at my dads house. I recently repotted his as it was a bit neglected. It’s now thriving again. Mine is going on 20 years and has always had light and is at least 4ft tall. I am supporting it with loosely tied string and sit it against the glass panel of our walk in shower. It’s happy as Larry and still going strong. Don’t feel bad about giving it a little chop they are very resilient.
