# White mold or bugs? I recently treated my plants with insecticidal…

_Geplaatst door Bodhi\_PlantMama op 2024-03-10_

White mold or bugs?

I recently treated my plants with insecticidal soap because of a mealy bug outbreak. It’s been less than a week and I am seeing this on some plants (the begonia is the worst).
Is this a continuing sign of the pests or is this mold of some sort?
The begonia definitely had little cotton like pieces on the plant stem before treating.

Help 😭

This may not be the right answer for your plant, but I’ve seen this buildup on the top of my soil when I water with tap water instead of purified water. In my instance, it was just mineral buildup.

I agree, I think it’s just mineral build up.

If you’re from the UK like me then use rainwater, tap water is extremely hard

Looks like fungus. It has a web appearance. It’s not harmful. It shows the soil is staying wet maybe too long. Let the soil dry out more between water. Ensure you have good air circulation to help dry the soil faster. You can use a fungicide if it’s unsightly.

Boil a large amount of water and store it like my 3 gallon tub it helps eliminate a lot of what’s in the tap water I don’t have this problem anymore since I started distilling my tap (boil) granted I’m sure there’s still chemicals in the water but I’m sure not near half as much

I actually use spring water! I am think it got a bit too saturated when spraying it for pests. I’m just happy it’s not more bugs lol
