# Should I behead my “Mother of Thousands”? It’s gotten quite tall…

_Gepostet von Figgeypudding am 2024-11-08_

Should I behead my “Mother of Thousands”? It’s gotten quite tall (about 3 feet). I don’t think it’s as a result of a lack of light because it was sitting in an east/south facing window and got plenty. When I moved it into even more direct light on my deck, the leaves burned. It just, for whatever reason, has gotten huge and very top heavy. It’s one of my favorite plants so I don’t want to ruin it, but not sure what the best plan should be.

I think you should change the pot for a heavier and taller plant. And maybe you want to get a large bamboo stick and tie it with a some natural jute so she can gain some strenght and grow straight.

Several things can cause leaf curl from pest damage, temperature extremes, insufficient nutrients, inconsistent watering and over/under watering. Insufficient light adds to the issues.

The leaves looks like they are soft at the tips on some. It’s hard to tell from the photos. The soil should be evenly moist. Better to underwater slightly than over water these.

Bright light on the plant from direct sun should be at least 8 hours and about 12 hours to 14 flours from a grow light. The plant is too low in the window since half of it is below the window sill and the leaf node gaps are large. A grow light will help.

I assume you check for pests and regularly fertilize since you have a lot of lovely plants.

Check the temperature regularly around the plant. Window areas can get too cold or too hot depending on the season. 🍀🪴
