# Help me please! This is my syngonium. I just got it a few weeks ago…

Help me please! This is my syngonium. I just got it a few weeks ago and it seemed to be doing fine. The other day it was due for watering and after watering it wilted. Yesterday it was perking up again but this morning I found it like this. What should I do?? Should I remove that main piece and can I put it in water to root? It looks like it just broke off.

You have root rot. Probably from watering when the soil is still wet. Don’t follow a strict watering schedule. Always check there is no moisture in the soil before watering.

I recommend:
\- Remove the plant.
\- Cut off all of the rot.
\- Remove the lower leaves until you find a node that is not rotten. Rinse the plant (tools, hands) with hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria.

\- Dump the soil since it lacks perlite and it’s got rot/bacteria in it.
\- Clean and disinfect the pot
\- Use fresh soil. One third perlite to 2/3 standard potting mix will work. The alternative is rooting in water , then, transfer to soil. 🪴🍀

Thank you! This is very helpful. I hope I can save her!

Just an additional thought and that is the pot looks very large for such a small plant, unless it has a large root ball. Too large of a pot is a contributor to overwatering.
