# My Alocasia “Polly” lost a stem, and it fell out of the pot. Some…

_Gepostet von Lynda am 2024-10-12_

My Alocasia “Polly” lost a stem, and it fell out of the pot. Some very nice Planta member told me to put it in water to grow some roots, so I could perhaps save this stem. Is this stem now ready to be potted, or should it grow more roots?
Also, if you can see it, look at the picture of the top of the stem, it appears to be growing something… maybe a leaf, IDK. Can anybody solve this mystery, or is it too early to tell what this is? TIA for any info… 🤗💚🪴

I would wait till those roots have roots, that way it’s not so much a shock for the plant being potted up in soil. I think the little guy is a stem/petiole that’ll grow a leaf in due time ☺️

I’m very familiar with rooting Pothos stems; I’ve done this a lot. In my experience, my Pothos stems grow all kinds of little tiny white threads everywhere, but I’m unsure of what an Alocasia root should look like. If you are familiar with rooting Pothos stems, should this stem look just like a Pothos root, and grow a lot more tiny roots like white threads, on the three big roots that it already has?
TIA for any info, and TXS for answering my previous post… 🤗💚🪴

Oh my goodness… I just had to show you this picture! I think I’m starting to see the little roots that you were talking about. I’m not sure what they’re going to look like, whether they’re going to look like a Pothos root, or not, but this is exciting, all the same! 🤗💚🪴

Apologies! I have a little one so life can get crazy in a matter of hours lol. Yep! You are right, all rooting roots will look the same regardless of plant, unless you’re dealing with some crazy rhizomes like on zz’s, but yahooo! Already got some secondary little root buds, I’d wait for those to grow out a little more before transporting to a chunky mix. 💚☺️

I know what it’s like to have little ones running around, crazy, crazy… but, those years are, oh, so precious!
Thanks for getting back to me, and giving me a bit more information about my alocasia root; you’ve really been helpful!
