Recently repotted by alocasia into a chunky soil. It’s orchid bark, perlite, and leca balls. Wondering if I should add some moist moss on top of the soil to keep it moist? Also how often should I water the plant when using this type of chunky soil. I have added photos for reference.

Thanks in advance!

I’m not an alocasia expert but I think with something this chunky you would want to do a semi-hydro approach. since nothing in this mix significantly retains water. alocasia doesn’t want to dry out at all — you’d probably have to water this something crazy like every day. I think all the sphag moss would do is invite fungus gnats

Is this a new plant? And what was it planted in before

I just got this from the nursery. It was potted in regular soil previously. I was thinking of mixing some regular soil into the chunky soil?

That’s a good idea, Alocasias tend to be dramatic and don’t react well to drastic changes. I have quite a few that all have a chunky mix but still some tropical indoor plant soil mixed in and they are all doing well
