Gave this lemon cypress to my mama for Christmas and it’s getting crispy. Any advice would be appreciated. The needles are falling and very sharp.

East facing window, waters once a week. Bright light in here all day.🤍🪴

Yes I am not relying on the moisture meters. I am following Planta schedule.

You absolutely have to check that the plant actually needs water. Planta’s schedule can kill your plants because it doesn’t know all the variables affecting your plant in your specific environment. Use it only as a guide to check if your plants need water.

If it’s over watered, will the needles get dry like that and fall off or is it underwater?

Overwatering leads to root rot which leads to dead stems and dropped leaves. Lack of sufficient lighting and fertilizer can also lead to dropped leaves as well. Pine needles drop very quickly. PlantyAnn covered these above.

Thank you all so much for being patient with me as I am a new plant Mom.🤍🪴

Hi plantyAnn, I posted a picture of above of the roots. I don’t know if there’s any evidence there.
