# I was gifted this lovely plant, but what I didn't realize before my…

_Pubblicato da Kori il 2025-02-17_

I was gifted this lovely plant, but what I didn't realize before my husband brought it home, it had been taken out of it's planter placed into a trash bag to keep the soil contained, and then placed in a box. I temporarily have it sitting in/on soil in a large planter but wanted to ask how best to take care of this beauty. Should I cut any of it back? Separate any of it? I want to give it a healthy home so it can thrive, but I am new to taking care of plants in general and also have never had one of these plants. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It looks under watered or the roots dried when it was out of the pot. The pot is too big. Downsize it to one smaller that can still fit the root ball.

Cut several stems off to propagate. Water thoroughly, if needed.

Wandering Jews are pretty tough. It definitely needs a smaller pot to start. This is what I would do but of course you can do whatever you want. I would take the large clump of plant and break it into three or four sections. Choose a cluster of stems pull it apart from the soil ball and plant it in an appropriate pot, probably 4 in. Use a well draining soil and water it in. Then I would trim all of the growth back to about 4 in. Repeat this process for each clump and let them grow in the smaller pot for a while. If they all fill out nicely then you can take all of the smaller pots and put them together in a larger pot to make a nice big hanging basket. They'll do much better when spring hits. And fertilize regularly, say every two weeks using a half strength all-purpose fertilizer.

They propagate really well, I prop in water or moss and they never let me down 😊 chop and prop some healthy stems, even chopping and putting back into the soil can help, I do that when mine gets a big leggy 😊 also second what KJM says 😊
