# Repotting- why does the planter app this week say almost every plant…

Repotting- why does the planter app this week say almost every plant in my collection needs to be repotted? Is it the time of year or is it just some process in the app? What’s realistic for repotting?

Repot your plant when roots come out of the bottom of the pot. The app is just reminding you to check.👍

Good questions! As follow up, I have heard that watering also eventually strips the soil of nutrients too- I know that fertilizing brings these back into the soil, but is it also good to repot on a regular yearly or longer time period basis? I have done the root check and haven’t repotted any yet otherwise

Every one to two years is the recommendation for most plants and in the spring/summer. But most plant parents repot when there are more roots than soil unless there is an issue like pests, etc. that force an earlier repot.

Just a Planta reminder that it's time of the year if you have something to repot, and also if you have the plant for a year or more, if you haven't done so
